20 Questions with Dr. Jessica Emery
20 questions as featured in the Lakeview Newspaper, October 2007
This month's interview is with Jessica T. Emery, DMD, owner of Sugar Fix, a dental office at 3346 N. Paulina.
Q. Where were you born and raised?
A. I was born in Worcester, Massachusetts and raised in Sutton, Massachusetts.
Q. Are you married? Any children?
A.I went to Susquehanna University for my college degree then Forsyth school for Dental Hygiene and Tufts University for Dental school.
Q. What is your fondest childhood memory?
A. Growing up with summer's at the Cape.
Q. Who do you most admire and why?
A. My mother because she followed her dream and went to dental school after raising 3 of us. She graduated in her forties and became a dentist.
Q. What is your favorite TV show, book and movie?
A. My favorite TV show is 20/20; my favorite book is "Something Borrowed"; and my favorite movie is "Love Actually."
Q. What is your favorite "pig out" food?
A. Cookies and cakes.
Q. What have been the three greatest successes in your life?
A. My marriage; getting through dental school and opening this practice.
Q. What have been the three greatest disappointments in your life?
A. Not keeping up with old best friends; not seeing my family enough on the east coast and not spending more time with a cousin who died in an automobile acc-indent.
Q. What was your first job?
A. A nanny on Cape Cod in the summer time.
Q. Who would you like to meet in person and what question would you ask?
A. Oprah. I would ask her "What continues to inspire you?"
Q. What country would you like to visit an why?
A. Spain. My husband's parents just relocated there.
Q. What did you do for a living before you became a dentist?
A. I was a dental hygienist for a couple of years.
Q. How and why did you decide to become a dentist?
A. I decided in college. I was a psychology major and a minor in arts and had been assisting my mother and being a dentist lets you be creative and help people.
Q. If you were not in your present profession, what do you think you would be doing for a living?
A. I would own a boutique with cards , bags and ribbons or work in pathology for the CDC.
Q. What improvements do you think should be made in the Lakeview neighborhood?
A. More stores need to be filled. The Chamber needs to work on the filling the vacancies with exited entrepreneurs.
Q. What do you think is the most pressing problem facing America today beside the Iraqi war?
A. We need a better education system for our children.
Q.What are your goals for your future?
A. To be successful, expand without increasing my volume. To make it a better unique experience and start the cosmetic side of dentistry.
Q. Do you have a motto for living your life?
A. Leap and the net will appear.
Q. What is your most valued possession?
A. My wedding ring. It symbolizes our commitment.
