Dental Dcor: Once Sterile, Now Cushy
Paraphrased from The Business of Life
A little Botox with your tooth-whitening treatment? Dentists in Illinois haven't quite won the battle to offer the cosmetic injections, but many newer offices look and sound like spas anyway.
Sugar Fix: A Dental Loft, in Roscoe Village, is decorated with a vintage crystal chandelier, hardwood floors, velvet couches and custom artwork.
"My idea was to create more of a comfortable, home-away-from-home" office, says dentist Jessica Emery, 35, who opened Sugar Fix, her first practice, in November. "Patients are pampered from the minute they walk in."
The groovy practices, in part a backlash against the sterile early AIDS era, attract younger patients, plus those who are a bit dentist-shy. "Their whole approach is a personal approach," says Sugar Fix patient Holly Smith, 29, a banker at ABN Amro in Chicago. The dcor is relaxing, "but she is, too," Ms. Smyth says of Dr. Emery.
